"Yo Soy Boricua, Pa'que tu lo sepas!"
Nunca olivando la herencia taína de nuestra ni la sangre mia de toda Nueva York aka NuYoRican Soul
con nada más que demasiado Wep@ para La Isla Boríkén del nacimiento!
This web-page contains a favorite show of mine which is televised on ABC (which is owned by Walt Disney World)/WPVI6 in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area as well as in the State of New Jersey, Delaware, & parts of Maryland.
Puerto Rican Panorama is produced & hosted by mi amigo boricua & Dr. Diego Antonio Castellanos, a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, who has resided in the Greater Delaware Valley area all of his adult life. Dr. Castellanos has distinguished himself as a community activist & an advocate for "la causa" (the struggle of the Hispanic community in the U.S. mainland). Dr. Castellanos as well plays host to the Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in Philadelphia which has been a tradition in the area since 1962 & is held on the last Sunday in September & telecast for 2 hours by WPVI-TV 6abc.
I had discovered this program @ a very young age in my life one weekend ago. Personally speaking @ that moment in time I was blown away that there was such a program by a Puerto Rican & devoted totally to the Puerto Ricans in the viewing area(s) on television. Despite the fact that its on air only 30 minutes on the weekends it was enough to have impacted my life from that moment forward. Since then it has been the only culturally speaking program besides Telemundo & Univisión that I always look forward to again & again on the weekends.
This program discusses various issues such as empowerment, education, economy, current events, politics, employment, etc. as it relates to the culture. It provides a voice for an important segment of the viewing area, thereby filling the void left by mainstream mass media in their inadequate coverage of the Latino community -- an important service considering the power of television to shape public opinion.
Also the program offers its audience w/ an abundance of information again on various issues @ hand & @ times showcases musical segments on Latin genres which the audience & viewers enjoy time after time.
The program originating @ 09/13/1970 has been on air for more than 4 decades & can currently be viewed during the weekends such as on Saturday afternoons around 1 p.m. &/or early Sunday mornings at 5 a.m. It's televised on close caption & now on High Definition Television (HDTV) & as well as Digital Television (DTV). It is the longest-running television show in the world dealing w/ Latino issues in English. It is currently the only show on a major (commercial, network-affiliated) television station in Philadelphia devoted exclusively to Hispanic issues.
If you enjoy the program like myself & should miss one episode, then no need to worry. For those loyal viewers who just can't get enough of the program & have a digital TV set you can catch it on both HiDef WPVI channels Wednesday & Friday mornings at 7:30 a.m. on the 2nd & 3rd WPVI channel 6.2 & 6.3 as well as Comcast channel 790 [Live Well Network] & Verizon/FiOS channel 466 & 506. For more information contact your signal provider for a program schedule & channel Id.
